Day 4. The last day!

Well, yesterdays lunch came back to bite me. I had an upset stomach and felt really rough but it went off by lunchtime. I couldn't eat anything so I just had tea and biscuits. It must have done me good as I felt back to normal at midday. 

The ward rounds only take place in the afternoon on a Monday so even though I could go home I had to wait for my prescription. A nurse came to do my obs and unfortunately my temperature was up to 38! This means more bloods and swabs needed to be taken. I became very uneasy at the thought of not going home tonight. 

Eventually the tests came back fine, the specialist was quite happy for me to go home so I just sat and waited - and waited - and waited! I felt as though I was going stir crazy and had still not had anything to eat. All I could think of was opening a tin of Heinz spaghetti, something I rarely eat!  

Out of the four days in hospital this was by far the worse. At least on the other days I knew what was happening. 

I left the ward at 8.20pm and went home. I had my spaghetti, fussed the dog and went to bed. 

My next session is on March 1st.

Same again at this appointment, so nothing more to report. My consultant didn't want to see me again for another four months, but then he realised he wasn't here then. My next appointment made for the end of July. He explained that I shouldn't worry about my bloods, as long as I feel alright in myself.  Great, I can book my Austria trip now for July!

Friday April 13th

Was this to be an ominous date? No, my bloods were absolutely fine and I felt really well. I explained to the consultant all that had gone on in Egypt and his only concern was that I was still not losing weight, which I wasn't. It's stayed steady, but my appetite is still not good. I promised to start eating better! Onwards and upwards for my next trip, Belgium in July for a long weekend!

The agony!

On the Tuesday, I went for my blood test, back to the suite on the ward where I had the rituximab.  I have never had a problem in giving blood, but on this occasion the phlebotomist said she couldn't get blood out of my right arm.  She then moved down to my wrist, near to my thumb. As she inserted the needle I had a shooting pain down to my index and middle fingers. It was like an electric shock and I don't know how I didn't jump off the chair! I have never experienced pain like it and she immediately apologised but carried on and took the three phials of blood out.  Even afterwards, my hand was sore and and tingling, depending which way I moved it. Fortunately I had been dropped off at the hospital, so I didn't have to drive home.  I was told that they would check my platelet level and let me know if I needed a transfusion the next day.  I went home and later that day when I was babysitting I got a phone call from the hospital.
